“‘Zeilinger’ lets whimsy guide his pen,” wrote Vogue when describing this artist to its readers in 1933. For the magazine’s May 15, 1934, Summer Travel issue he chose to capture a woman in repose and invite the viewer’s imagination to wander as he or she took in the model’s bee-striped dress—designed by Alix (later known as Madame Grès)—with colors, wrote Vogue, as “pungent and vivid as a midsummer afternoon.”
