On a breezy porch framed by fading summer light, four friends raise their glasses — laughter easy, the evening just getting started. Below the railing, entirely unnoticed by the group, a large lobster makes its way toward the door — lantern swinging from one claw, suitcase in the other — with all the purposeful calm of a seasoned summer traveler. The whole scene has the feeling of a coastal July at its most generous: warm light, good company, and a welcome surprise built right into the frame.
Peter de Sève's richly expressive illustration style is celebrated for its warmth and wit, and this cover is a perfect example. The layered light, the interplay of figures above and below the porch railing, and the character written into every brushstroke give the puzzle a depth that rewards closer attention with every session.
A wonderful gift for fans of coastal summers, New England beach houses, and whimsical illustration — and an especially good find for anyone who believes the best puzzles tell a story that only reveals itself piece by piece.
